tape drive doesn't work

If it NEVER worked, you haven't configured it properly:
wrong ID, wrong controller, or wrong bus.

If you are running 3.2v5.0.5 or higher, you can safely use
"sconf -v" to probe for scsi devices; don't use it prior to
5.0.5.  Instead, boot the machine and use the Adaptec CTRL-A
monitor to find out what's really attached and where.

If it USED to work, and actually has a tape inserted, and
the power or scsi cable hasn't worked its way loose and
fallen off, and you haven't changed anything else, then it
is defective.
