Anyone found (or even looking for) a patch?
linux-abi only coms as a patch, which is just another way of saying a kernel source diff. no seperate loadable module you can download. anyone tending linux boxes should get comfortable with getting, patching, configuring, compiling, and installing kernels. Simple as that. linux-abi does work as well as the old iBCS. I used iBCS for a long time, and I'm using linux-abi now in kernel 2.4.4 it works great. I did have to hand edit one file for a cosmetic change. For anyone else who may have hit this with the new linux-abi: If you even get as far as getting a kernel patched and built and running a sco binary and you get error messages on your console about an unsupported tape ioctl, it's harmless and all I did was change all instances of KERN_ERR to KERN_DEBUG in /usr/src/linux/abi/svr4/ioctl.c linux-abi info and mail lists can be found on sourceforge http://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-abi/ the latest versions of the patch can be found here: ftp://ftp.openlinux.org/pub/people/hch/linux-abi/
get kernel 2.4.4 sources copy the patch into /usr/src/linux cd /usr/src/linux cat linux-abi-2.4.4.0.diff |patch -p1 make menuconfig (find and enable all the options under "Binary emulation of other systems" I mean all, not just "sco" you need wyse and svr4 etc) make dep && make bzImage && make modules && make modules_install && echo -e "\n\n\aBUILD COMPLETE" mkdir /boot/2.4.4-abi cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/2.4.4-abi cp .config /boot/2.4.4-abi cp System.map /boot/2.4.4-abi vi /etc/lilo.conf lilo reboot -- Brian K. Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. If you have any question, please do feel free to contact me.
Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
