I use vi. When I want to quit, I hit ":", then I hit "q". | So I quit vi. there is no problem at all about that. But sometimes while | working on vi, by mistake, I hit "Q" and I see a ":" at the bottom of my | screen and I do not know what this command means. I do not know how to | cancel this command and I do not any way to continue to write on vi. The | only trik that works is to hit "q". so I quit vi, and I go back to the | shell, then I can hit "vi" again to go on writing with vi. Who could help me | to understand the meaning of "Q", and how to cancel this command. The meaning of Q in vi is very explicitly described in the vi man page.
There's no "trick" involved at all. Q puts you in the ex mode, which is non-visual, non full-screen. You coud also run ex on a file, and use 'vi' to put you in visual mode. -- JP

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. If you have any question, please do feel free to contact me.
Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
