'Tis a tangled web...

The fix for this problem was included in OSR506. In fact, the binary in
oss637a is identical to the one on a 506+rs506a system I checked, which
I know has not had oss637a installed on it. I don't know whether the
identical binary actually came from the base 506 install or from rs506a.

oss637a was packaged with a tool which attempts (to varying degrees of
success) to build custom+ patches which are installable on the entire
range of OSR5 releases.

oss637a was _targeted_ at 505; that is, at all the currently supported
releases which did not already contain the fix. That means it's
documented for, and was tested on, only OSR505. However, the
multi-patch tool that built the supplement is fairly successful on
simple patches like this (all it does is replace one binary,
/etc/popper). So even though it wasn't tested, the supplement will
_probably_ work on 5.0.[024]. It can also almost certainly be
successfully installed and removed on 5.0.6, but will have no actual
effect since it's just replacing a binary with itself.

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
