Subject: libsocket.so.1 From: brian@aljex.com (Brian K. White) Date: Mon, Feb 10, 2003 8:26 PM I now have a script that will do everything for you to install Caldera's build of OpenSSH 3.4p1 on Open Server, and it works on all of 5.0.4, 5.0.5, and 5.0.6 In the case of 5.0.4, where you need to replace your libsocket.so.1 with one from a 5.0.5 box, The script downloads rs505a and extracts the file from that. So you don't need to copy it from a 505 box. (And I can make a script that anyone can use instead of having to keep it to myself)
While was updating this script and searching for publicly downloadable copies of libsocket.so.1 I found *2* different libsocket.so.1's in rs505a, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the difference is (other than the obvious size and path) here is what I found: mkdir -p /tmp/rs505a cd /tmp/rs505a URL=ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/rs505a
wget -q -O - ${URL}/VOL.002.000 |cpio -ivAdq */libsocket.so.1.Z
wget -q -O - ${URL}/VOL.003.000 |cpio -ivAdq */libsocket.so.1.Z
find . -name libsocket.so.1.Z -print |while read FILE
do uncompress $FILE ; done
find . -name libsocket.so.1 -print |while read FILE
do sum -l $FILE ; done
yields:
23284055 469
./opt/K/SCO/Unix/rs505a.Unix505.1.0a/DYNAMIC_LIBRARIES/libsocket.so.1
28580231 617
./opt/K/SCO/tcp/rs505a.tcp211.1.0a/usr/lib/libp/libsocket.so.1
on an ordinary 5.0.5 box with rs505a installed I see that:
sum -l /usr/lib/libsocket.so.1
23284055 469 /usr/lib/libsocket.so.1
so the file from the "002" vol is the one I have my script
automatically download and install. But what is that other file?
Are there going to be cases where downloading and overwriting the
users current libsocket.so.1 with the one from the "002" vol above
would not be OK on 5.0.4?
In the mean time, I would like to document a recipe, using only stock
commands, to get yourself a 5.0.5 version of libsocket.so.1 so that
Caldera's OpenSSH 3.4p1 package will work on Open Server 5.0.4 (other
than by copying from a 5.0.5 box) The other Requirements of the
package are documented and available in a more or less straightforward
manner already.
mkdir -p /tmp/rs505a
cd /tmp/rs505a
rftp -g -bh ftp.sco.com /pub/openserver5/rs505a VOL.002.000
zcat `cpio -ivAdq */libsocket.so.1.Z <VOL.002.000` >libsocket.so.1
cd /usr/lib
cp libsocket.so.1 libsocket.so.1_504
cp -f /tmp/rs505a/libsocket.so.1 .
chown bin:bin libsocket.so.1
chmod 555 libsocket.so.1
cd /
rm -rf /tmp/rs505a
