travan tape locks up

Agreed -- I've got 15 of them, and have been plagued with this problem for
two years.

1) full power off is recommended. Also try removing tape and inserting a
DIFFERENT tape -- that will sometimes fix the problem.

2) Sometimes the problem is the tape drive itself. I've had technicians
report that the drive band for the drive has fallen off its track, and they
put the band back on the track and the tape drive works again (usually only
for a short while, but sometimes indefintely).
